Greece has introduced a special status for Digital Nomads—the Digital Nomad Visa—which allows individuals to live and work legally from within Greek territory while remaining professionally connected to employers or clients abroad.
Key Features
- Valid for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for 2 years
- Minimum net income of €3,500/month
- Proof of an employment relationship or contracts with employers/clients outside Greece
- Health insurance
Validity and Renewal
The Digital Nomad Visa grants the right to reside in Greece for up to 1 year. It may be renewed—subject to meeting certain conditions—for an additional two years through a Digital Nomad residence permit. Applicants must continue to demonstrate remote work activity and verify their income.
Citizens of “Visa-free” countries may apply directly for a digital nomad residence permit, valid for up to 2 years and renewable on a 3-year basis.
Eligibility Criteria for the Digital Nomad Visa (Type D Visa)
To obtain a Digital Nomad Visa (Type D Visa valid from 91 to 365 days), applicants must meet the following main requirements:
- Income Criteria: A minimum net monthly income of €3,500. This amount increases by 20% if accompanied by a spouse and by 15% for each dependent child.
- Documentation: Proof of a professional relationship with an employer or clients located outside Greece, as well as evidence of financial resources and health insurance.
